Victor Model R

The Royal was Victor's lowest price talking machine during its production, and was very similar in appearance to Eldrige Johnson's first sidewinding phonograph. In spite of the low price, the cabinet of the royal was still constructed of fine quartersawed oak with oxidized metal corner braces. The single spring motor required winding prior to playing each record. The turntable was 7 inches in diameter to match the size of the popular low cost disks made by victor. A 16" steel horn was standard.
